IF YOU WERE ABOUT TO _________

     I.  The apostle Paul was aware that he was about to die.  His ministry was about to end.

          A.  “The time of my departure is at hand.”  V4b

          B.  “I am already being poured out as a drink offering.”  Numbers 28:11-31

    II.  The apostle Paul reflected on his life as a minister of God.  2 Timothy 4:7

          A.  “I have fought the good fight.” V7a  He had

                1.  Conflicts in himself.  1 Corinthians 9:26-27 (846)
                     a. We must discipline self.
                2.  Opposition from people.  2 Corinthians 11:24-33 (858) 
                     a.  We must overcome opposition.

          B.  “I have finished the race.” 2 Timothy 4:7b

                1.  Paul didn’t live according to the song, “I Did It My Way.”  This is the way many
                     people live.  Examples:
                2.  Paul lived for Jesus.  Philippians 1:19-24 (867)
                3.  The Christian life isn’t easy.

          C.  “I have kept the faith.”  2 Timothy 4:7c

                1.  Paul didn’t give up.  What about us?

  III.  “There is laid up for me the crown of righteousness”  2 Timothy 4:8

         A.  The crown of rightness is

               1.  Guaranteed.    “laid up”.  Ephesians 1:13-14 (863)
               2.  Glorious.  “crown”
               3.  personal.  “for me”
               4.  Given by the Lord.
               5.  A future reward.  “On that Day”  2 Corinthians 5:5-9 (854)

  Conclusion:  1)  Is there anything in your life to change?  2)  There is a finish line!
