IS YOUR NAME IN THE LAMB’S BOOK OF LIFE?

    Introduction

          A.  According to God’s word those who are saved will enjoy eternal life, and those

                who are lost will experience eternal punishment in hell.  Romans 6:23 (833); Rev.

                21:25-27 (917)

          B.  The names of those who are saved are recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

      I.  Let’s first consider background information

          A.  The Jews kept a register of their citizens called the “Book of the Living.”

                1.  How it was used.

          B.  Jesus used this familiar register to draw a spiritual parallel and called His register the

                “Book of Life.”

    II.  Certain facts about the Book of Life

          A.  Has existed from the foundation of the world.  Revelation 13:8 (912); Rev.            

                17:8 (914)

          B.  Contains the names of those who will be in God’s eternal kingdom.  Hebrews 12:23

               (890); Luke 10:17-20 (761); Revelation 3: 3-6 (906)

          C.  Belongs to Christ.  Revelation 21:27 (917)

          D.  Names are recorded by Christ.  Revelation 3:4-6 (906)

          E.  Only those whose names are recorded will escape the second death,

                which is the “lake of fire.”  Revelation 20:11-15 (916)

  Conclusion

          A.  People who reject the gospel of Christ don’t have their names written in the Lamb’s

                Book of Life (Revelation 21:27) and will experience the lake of fire (Rev. 20:15);
