LESSONS FROM ECCLESIASTES 7:1-10 (508)


    Introduction

          A.  In these verses king Solomon presents several valuable lessons.

      I.  Solomon points out the value of practical wisdom in Ecclesiastes chapter seven.
          Read verses 1-4

         A.  A “good name” is a good reputation.  V1.  It is better than possessing
               something expensive.

         B.  The day of our death is better than the day of our birth.  V1

               Why?  Job 14:1 (414); Eccl. 12:7; 2 Corinthians 5:8 (854); Psalm 116:15 (474)

         C.  It’s better to spend time in a funeral home than in a place of feasting.  V2

               Why?  Hebrews 9:27 (888)

         D.  Sorrow is better than laughter.  Vv3-4

               Why?  It is a great teacher.

    II.  Solomon teaches us that rebuke from a wise person can be constructive.  Vv5-6

          A.  Example:

   III.  A wise man can lose his dignity and his reasoning can be perverted by a bribe.

   IV.  Solomon teaches that patience (endurance) is of great value.  Vv8-10

          C.  Don’t be quick to become angry.  V9.

          D.  Patience will enable us to focus on the present.  V10
