OUR LIFE IN CHRIST (Part Three)
Colossians 3:16-17 (871)
Review and Introduction
A. As we studied in Colossians 3 last Sunday, we looked at eight virtues in verses 12-14
that we are to put on since we have been raised with Christ in baptism.
B. We also gave attention to the peace of God that should rule our hearts. V15
C. This morning let’s consider verses 16-17.
I. We are to let the word of Christ-the doctrine of Christ-dwell in us. V16; Col.
1:5-6

1 Peter 2:2 (895); Hebrews 5:8-9 (885)
B. The indwelling word of God will manifest itself in two ways (Col. 3:150:

Admonish:
One another: page 111 in hymn book
Psalm: page 73 in hymn book
Hymn: How Great Thou Art
Spiritual song: Sing And Be Happy (page 63 in hymn book)
b. We need a balance with emphasis on praising God and Jesus. See pages 103
and 1a in hymn book.
2. The indwelling word will manifest itself also by singing with grace in our
hearts to the Lord. Count Your Blessings (page 68)
II. We are to live by the authority of Christ. Col. 3:17; Ephesians 1:20-23 (863); Matthew
28:18 (730); Hebrews 1:1-4 (883)
III. We are to give thanks to our Heavenly Father through Jesus.
Conclusion: Once someone has been raised with Christ in baptism, he/she needs to start the
process of growing spiritually, which involves putting off the deed of the old
person and putting on Christian virtues.
