.                                                           OUR LIFE IN CHRIST (Part Two)
                                                         Colossians 3:12-17 (871)

    Review and Introduction
              A.  Last Sunday as we studied Colossians 3:1-11, we looked at the need to put off the
deeds of the flesh.  Vv 5-9
              B.  There are qualities that we are to put on as a new person.  Metaphors of “put off”
and “put on” in verses 8-10.
              C.  This morning let’s consider things that we must put on since we have been raised
                    with Christ in baptism.

         I.  There are eight positive qualities listed in verses 12-14 that we are to put on to grow
              spiritually.

              A.  These are traits of Christ, and must be in us if He is in us:

                    Tender mercies:
                     Kindness:
                     Humility:
                     Meekness:
                     Longsuffering:
                     Bearing with one another:
                     Forgiving one another:
                     Love (Ephesians 4:32)

II.  We are to let the peace of God rule in our hearts.  V15

               A.  Reference is made to peace in the church.

               B.  We receive peace with God:

                     1.  through the blood of the cross.  Colossians 1:20; through the sacrifice
Jesus made for us.  2 Corinthians 5:18-21 (854)
                     2.  from God.  Philippians 4:6-7 (869)
                     3.  as a fruit of the Spirit.  Galatians 5:22 (862)

               C.  The peace of God is to rule in our hearts.  Colossians 3:15.  The word rule
                     means sit as umpire.

                     1.  The peace of God is to act as umpire to govern our attitudes and behavior.
                          Examples:_____________________________________________________
                          Galatians 5:15 (862)
                     2.  We are to be thankful.

Closing:  Since we have been raised with Christ in baptism, we are to put on spiritual
qualities so that we can grow.
