Review and Introduction
A. Last Sunday as we studied Colossians 3:1-11, we looked at the need to put off the
deeds of the flesh. Vv 5-9
B. There are qualities that we are to put on as a new person. Metaphors of “put off”
and “put on” in verses 8-10.
C. This morning let’s consider things that we must put on since we have been raised
with Christ in baptism.
I. There are eight positive qualities listed in verses 12-14 that we are to put on to grow
spiritually.
A. These are traits of Christ, and must be in us if He is in us:
Tender mercies:
Kindness:
Humility:
Meekness:
Longsuffering:
Bearing with one another:
Forgiving one another:
Love (Ephesians 4:32)
II. We are to let the peace of God rule in our hearts. V15
A. Reference is made to peace in the church.
B. We receive peace with God:
1. through the blood of the cross. Colossians 1:20; through the sacrifice
Jesus made for us. 2 Corinthians 5:18-21 (854)
2. from God. Philippians 4:6-7 (869)
3. as a fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22 (862)
C. The peace of God is to rule in our hearts. Colossians 3:15. The word rule
means sit as umpire.
1. The peace of God is to act as umpire to govern our attitudes and behavior.

Closing: Since we have been raised with Christ in baptism, we are to put on spiritual
qualities so that we can grow.
