OUR LIFE IN CHRIST

Introduction
A. Let’s focus on Colossians 3:1-11, and as we do let’s understand that these instructions
are for those who have been raised with Christ. Colossians 3:1a; 2:10-13
B. Our study is divided into three areas: 1) seek those things in heaven, 2) put to death
the deeds of the flesh and 3) equality in Christ.
I. We are to seek those things in heaven since we have been raised with Christ in baptism.
Colossians 3:1-4
A. Paul instructs us to set our mind on things above. V2
1. Why?
a. We are dead and our life is hidden with Christ in God. V3; Galatians 2:20

b. We need to be transformed. Romans 12:1-2 (837)
c. We need the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:5,6,14
d. A mindset on spiritual matters will lead us to the blessings of eternity.
Colossians 3:1,4; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (874)
B. How do we seek those things above?
1. By what we think. Philippians 4:8 (869)
2. By hating and resisting the sinful elements of the world. 1 John 2:15-17 (900)
3. Through obedience to God. 1 John 2:17b; Matthew 7:21 (708)
II. We are to put to death the deeds of the flesh.
A. Lust of the flesh. Colossians 3:5-7 (871)
B. Social sins. Colossians 3:8-9
C. Motivation: To avoid the wrath of God. Colossians 3:6. We have died to
them. Vv7,3
III. There is equality in Christ. Colossians 3:11; Galatians 3:28-29 (861)
A. The barriers are removed and there is equality. On the same level. Everyone accepted
Conclusion: You might be thinking _____________. Spiritual growth is a process. V10;
1 John 1:7,9 (900). Let’s be determined to seek those things that are eternal.
