THE RACE OF FAITH
Hebrews 12:1-3 (890)
Introduction
A. Let’s picture in our mind’s eye our standing on the track in an Olympic stadium
about to run a race.
1. Consider thousands of spectators cheering in support. Hebrews 12:1; Hebs.11:
V7-Noah; v11-Sarah; vv24-25 Moses; vv32-33-others
2. More importantly, Jesus is with us. V2 He will lead us to victory. He has
successfully run a much more difficult and longer race.
B. Let’s focus on how we can run and successfully complete the race of faith.
I. We must first “lay aside every weight,” and the sin that hinders us. V1. Illustration:
A. Legalism can hinder us. Galatians 5:7-9,1-6 (862). The faith that is acceptable to God
is the faith that uses love as its medium to operate.
B. A sinful habit can hinder us as we run the race of faith. Colossians 3:8-10
(871)
C. If there is a sin that gives us a problem, lets repent and ask God to forgive us and
help us overcome the sin.
II. “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us” Hebrews 12:1
A. We will face difficult times. Examples:
B. Let’s profit from overcome trials. James 1:2-5 (891);
C. Ask God for His help. Philippians 4:6-7 (869)
III. “Looking unto Jesus.” V2. “lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.” V3
Romans 8:1-4 (834), 34-39; 1 John 2:1 (900); 1 John 1:7
