    Introduction

          A.  Comments about visiting Golgotha

          B.  The word "Golgotha" means place of a skull.

          C.  Three men were crucified one fateful day on Golgotha: Jesus, the Son
               of God and two thiefs, one on either side of Jesus.

          D.  Read John 19:5-19.  Let's look at three crosses.

      I.  On one cross a man died ___IN__ sin.

          A.  He had lived in rebellion against the laws of God and man, and died
               in that condition.  Luke 23 :39 (777).  No remorse, no repentance.

          B.  There are people today who have the attitude of this man.  Examples:

     II.  On another cross a man died __TO____ sin.

           A.  He had also lived as a thief, but he repented.  Luke 23:40-43 (777)

           B.  There are people today who need to repent.  Romans 3:23 (831); 6:
                23.

                1.  Wayward christian.  1 John 1:9 (900)

                2.  Never obeyed God's plan of salvation.  Mark 16:15-16 (748)

     III.  On the middle cross Jesus died __FOR____ sin.  When we look at this cross:

            A.  We should be ashamed that Jesus had to die for us.  2 Corinthians
                 5:21 (854)

            B.  We should be grateful for what Jesus has done for us.  2 Corinthians
                 5:21,19

            C.  We ______ the good news of salvation.  1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (850)

            D.  Lost people must be united with the sacrifice Jesus made for us.
