APOSTLES-BIG FISH TALE ( Part One)
John 21:1-14 (800)
Introduction
A. Most people like to hear a good fish story, especially when we
are told the fish that got away was the big fish.
B. The story in John 21 isn’t just about fishing. Read John 21:
1-14
1. The apostles caught many fish (153), but this story has
underlying principles.
2. It’s a true fish tale, Divine intervention
3. Jesus revealed several principles that apply to every
disciple today.
I. That our best efforts come up without Jesus. Vv1-3
A. This was the 3rd appearance of Jesus to His disciples.
1. This time Jesus appeared to five apostles and two disciples
at the Sea of Tiberius. (Also Sea of Galilee and Capernaum
Mark 16:7
2. Peter decided to go back fishing and the others joined him
3. Went back to their old life. What about us?
4. They cast their net all night and everytime the net came
back empty.
B. Applications:
1. A picture of human effort without divine guidance.
Jeremiah 10:23
2. There are christians trying to do God’s work without ______
to Jesus. Without Jesus the disciples caught nothing, but
with the instruction of Jesus they caught 153 fish.
3. We must depend on Jesus. John 15:1-8; Phil 2:12-13 (868)
II. Obedience leads to God’s blessings. John 21:4-6,11
A. They didn’t recognize Jesus at first because it was dawn.
B. When they followed His instructions, the result was _________
and the knew that only Jesus could have done it.
1. The disciples’ faith was strengthed. The result was in
obeying Jesus. Matthew 7:21-27 (708)
2. Have you ever accepted a responsibility in the church
without folowing through?
C. We need to be on the right side of the boat ( The obedience
side)
