I. “Blessed are the meek”
A. What does it mean to be meek?
1. According to Wayne Jackson, the word “meek” is from a Greek word that
denotes strength under control. Used by ancient Greeks to describe a wild
horse trained to the bridle.
a. Moses was described as being meek. Numbers 12:3 121)
2. Meek people don’t think more highly of themselves than they should.

3. Meek people have a servant’s heart. Matthew 20:20-28 (720)
B. How do we develop meekness?
1. We must realize who we are before the all-righteous God. Vv3-4
a. Meekness flows from the first and second beatitudes.
2. We learn meekness from Christ. Matthew 11:28-30 (712)
3. We cooperate with the Holy Spirit as He enables us. Galatians 5:22-23 (862)
II. “For they shall inherit the earth.”
A. God owns everything (Psalm 24:1,p437), and His children receive an inheritance
(Ephesians 1:11,p863).
B. The blessings
1. The meek are citizens of the kingdom on earth. Matthew 16:18-19 (717);

2. They receive all spiritual blessings in Christ. Ephesians 1;3 (863)
3. The meek receive all their needs from their Heavenly Father. Phil 4:19 (869
4. It could possible refer to the new heaven and new earth. Revelation 21:1-4

Closing: The meek are blessed because they will receive blessings from their Heavenly
Father now and in eternity.
