B. What is the only hope that an unconverted human heart has? It’s provided
by God. 2 Corinthians 5:14-21
C. The person must become a new person with a neww heart. 2 Cor. 5:17
I. The old person must be put off.
A. The old person must die in a spiritual sense. Galatians 2:20a (860)
- Crucify. In baptism. Romans 6:3-7
- Buried. Romans 6:3-4
- Old heart is changed through obedience. Romans 17,6
- The burial in baptism symbolizes death to sin. V7
II. The new person must be put on.
A. Old dead person has been buried must be raised to life. Romans 6:4-5,8-11;
Revelation 21:27 (917); 1 John 1:6 (899) - We are righteous when God makes us righteous. 2 Corinthians 5:18-21
- Old man is crucified- sin done away, no longer slaves to sin. Justification
- There is freedom. V7
- The raising in baptism symbolizes a life to righteousness.
III. The new person can’t live a perfect life. There is God’s forgiveness.
