SELF-RIGHTEOUS WARNING SIGNS
Introduction
A. Jesus’s harshest words were for the Scribes and Pharisees
who claimed to be the most religious.
B. They were self-righteous and legalistic.
1. The Law of Moses had been perverted into the tradition
of the elders. Let’s not think that we aren’t susceptible
to the same danger.
C. Let’s consider three warning signs that can help us detect
any traces of self-righteousness before it overtakes us.

I. Self-righteous people usually think they are better than
others.
A. How did Jesus feel about the self-righteous people of His

II. Self-righteous people are critical and judgmental.

A. Could it be that a critical attitude toward others is a
disguise for self-righteous?
III. Self-righteous people are proud or prideful of their
performance.

IV. Self-righteous people won’t please God.
