The Parable Of The Wise And Foolish Virgins
Introduction
A. As Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives, four of His apostles asked Him, “And what will be
the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
B. In Matthew 25 Jesus gave three parables in response, and we’ll focus on one of these
parables.
I. The Parable of the wise and foolish virgins. Matthew 25:1-13 (725)
A. Jesus used the customs of the Jewish wedding as a metaphor.
1. The betrothal involved the groom’s traveling to His bride’s house and making the
necessary arrangements with her father.
2. The groom would return to his father’s house and make living arrangements.
3. The groom would go to get his bride at a time if his choosing, and the bridal party
had to be prepared.
4. The groom and bride would return to consummate the marriage and to celebrate
the wedding feast for seven years.
