WE CAN OVERCOME THE FEAR OF FAILURE

Introduction
A. Here are questions for each one to ask about the fear of failure:
B. We’ll briefly consider the background to our lesson.
1. Moses had led the Hebrews in the wilderness for 38 years because of their
lack of faith.
2. Moses died and Joshua, who had been the assistant of Moses, became their
leader. (Approx. 1405 B.C)
C. As we focus on God’s commission to Joshua, we’ll give attention to how God
encouraged Joshua and how God can encourage us. Joshua 1:1-9 (177)
I. The Lord’s challenge to Joshua (Vv1-4,6): Take the people over Jordan, defeat the
Canaanites and divide the land to the people.
A. Would you like to have been in Joshua’s shoes?
1. Consider: Moses was a legend, had a special relationship with God (Deut. 34:1
2. The Children of Israel numbered 2-3 million and had no military training.
There was no workshop for Joshua to attend.
B. Are you facing a challenge? Examples:
1. Claim the promise from God: V9
II. God told Joshua that He would be with him as He was with Moses. Vv5,9
A. God has promised to be with us.

III. The Lord told Joshua to “be strong and of good courage.” Vv 6,7,9
A. God will do His part and we must do our part. Philippians 1:6 (867); 2:12-13
IV. God told Joshua to use the Book of the Law (Penteteuch) as his priority. Vv7-8
A. We are to use God’s Law for us. (New Testament)
V. God’s promises to Joshua: Vv3-4: He would give His people the land. V5: No man
could stand before him. V7: He would prosper. V8; Have success.
A. Few promises God has given us: Salvation (Acts 2:38); Victory (Ro. 8:31-34, p835);
His love (Ro. 8:35-39; Reward (1 Cor. 15:58); Eternal life (1 John 2:24-25,p900)
